From the Porter’s mess to the Council Chamber, 20 cutting edge artists from across the globe (chosen by LIFT’s Mark Ball and Forced Entertainment’s Director Tim Etchells) took over the entire building with their moving, surprising, sometimes witty and often startling responses to the First World War and what happened next.

The audience swapped their tickets for wristbands and stayed as long as they liked to create their own journeys round the extraodinary shows and experiences scheduled throughout the days and evenings.

Highlights included:

  • Lebanon’s most daring theatre-maker Lucien Bourjeily asked people to redraw the map of the Middle East to see if they could make it work.

  • A drone passed over Battersea’s streets with the installation of James Bridle's Designs of the Year category winning piece 'Drone Shadow'.

  • In the attics an immersive sound installation by poets Tom Chivers and James Wilkes put London’s conscientious objectors on trial.

  • Award winning spoken word poet Inua Ellams revealed the untold stories of African soldiers on the Western Front.

  • ATC and the leading writer Nassim Soleimanpour presented a new piece of gaming-inspired theatre using Hamlet to explore the Iran-Iraq war.

  • Stan’s Café lined up thousands of dominoes to show how Archduke Franz Ferdinand’s assassination lead to the start of a world war.
