The programme offered an artistic and aesthetic experience of facts – memoir, testimonials, theatre that’s ripped from the headlines – and fantasies – unusual, sensorial, imaginative interpretations of the worlds we could live in. Audiences would have been invited to be playful with what they actually believe and what they wanted to believe in.
However, a global pandemic meant that our 2020 festival, and what would have been the first for Artistic Director Kris Nelson, was cancelled just days after going on sale. LIFT honoured its commitments and artists were paid. Wherever possible, we kept working with artists hoping to bring their performances back at a later date. From the 2020 festival programme, I Am From Reykjavik was programmed in the summer of 2021, and The Feminine and the Foreign formed part of the 2022 festival.
