LIFT’s inaugural Young Producers Programme brings together a group of 7 young people aged 18-26, from across London, to devise and produce a performance for LIFT 2022.
With a shared excitement for culture, passion about social change, inclusivity, and a drive to make live events a more accessible and representative space, this cohort of UpLIFTers are collaborating in small groups to animate the Ditch at Shoreditch Town Hall.
The programme is rooted in LIFT’s work with young people in Tottenham. Developing on the 5 year partnership with young people in Tottenham, LIFT is expanding its reach London-wide to support young people through the arts.
The Journey
The UpLIFTers went on an 18-week journey, taking a deep dive into the live event producing process and developing their skills. The course consisted of mentoring, creative sessions and planning sessions, all working towards creating a live event or performance for the LIFT 2022 festival at Shoreditch Town Hall.
Skills and Experience
The UpLIFTers:
- Gained experience and knowledge of the cultural landscape, here in the UK and internationally.
- Experienced, reflected on and analysed various kinds of productions, how they work and how they are made.
- Learnt team building, group process and project management tools – all useful for transitioning into the professional world.
- Worked with practical examples of budgets, schedules and project management tools.
- Made artist bookings.
- Created outreach and publicity materials.
- Developed logistics, problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Gained live, on-the-ground experience managing a dynamic arts event in a busy festival environment.
- Earnt experience of a reflective evaluation process to inform their next steps.

Why
LIFT wants to support the next generation of creatives, providing opportunities for them to work on topical cultural happenings and live events with big audiences and real budgets. LIFT wants the people that join this programme to leave with strong events producing skills that are transferrable to a multitude of cross-sector settings, for whatever they choose to do next or in their own creative endeavours. We've intentionally brought together a group that cares about making the arts a more representative space, as we want our UpLIFTer's alumni to go on to have a say in ensuring everyone has a voice in the cultural happenings of our city.
