Acting as an integral part of our wider programme, LIFT the City will enliven spaces and buildings throughout this historic part of London via performance and participatory work, connect communities and encourage footfall back into the City following the pandemic.
LIFT 2024 | Democracy From Where I Stand, The Dutch Church, Saturday 8th June. In partnership with the Financial Times.
In a year when half the world’s population are heading to the polls in national elections, LIFT and the Financial Times came together in LIFT 2024, to present Democracy From Where I Stand, a powerful night of provocations, poetry, live music and performance at The Square Mile’s Dutch Church. The event brought together leading women from across the globe to share their views on and relationship to democracy today.
This event was developed from the FT film series Democracy 2024, directed and produced by Juliet Riddell, and was presented as part of LIFT the City, supported by The City of London @cityoflondon.

LIFT 2024: L’Animale by Chiara Bersani
Set against the backdrop of The Old Bailey, Italy’s Chiara Bersani revisited The Dying Swan (a ballet originally choreographed by Michel Fokine for Anna Pavlova in 1905), with her site specific work, L’Animale. Chiara Bersani is one of the world’s leading stage artists and an influential figure in Italian performance. With a reputation of pushing the boundaries of dance, Bersani uses her body to draw on the universal themes of loneliness and mortality.

LIFT 2024: L'Animale by Chiara Bersani
In 2024, LIFT commissioned BAFTA award-winning interactive arts company Coney to design and deliver a series of powerful and playful workshops for workers and residents in the City of London, with the goal of broadening access to wellbeing through creativity. This film follows one workshop held with Square Mile based staff at Regular Cleaning.
The Workplace Boosts workshops are part of LIFT the City, supported by The City of London @cityoflondon.
